Hi! I'm Ristia (pronounced Rees-tee-ah).

Professional overthinker, snack enthusiast, and occasional expert at pretending I know what I'm doing. My brain has 17 tabs open at any given time, and I'm not entirely sure any of them are relevant.

I'm here to meet people from different cultures, practise my English, and collect interesting conversations. I enjoy random facts, terrible jokes, harmless sarcasm, and learning things I probably didn't need to know but will remember forever for absolutely no reason.

We can exchange cultural differences, share ridiculous stories, or discuss cats. Especially cats. I can listen to cat stories for an unreasonable amount of time. Consider yourself warned. Anyway, I'm not picky about the topic, as long as we're both enjoying the conversation.

A sense of humour is appreciated. So is basic human decency. I'm all for dark humour and silly nonsense, but if your idea of being funny involves racism or making people uncomfortable with unwanted sexual remarks, I'm probably not your audience. There are plenty of other ways to be interesting.

I'm from Indonesia, by the way! We have more than 17,000 islands and over 700 living languages. No, I haven't visited all the islands. I'm not even going to pretend that's on my weekend itinerary.

I love learning about languages, accents, and those little expressions that refuse to translate properly. A dictionary can tell me what a word means, but a native speaker can tell me how people actually use it.

So, here's a question for you : What's your favourite untranslatable word?

Mine is gemas, an Indonesian word for that overwhelming feeling of finding something so adorable that you want to squeeze, hug, or pinch it. English has cute aggression, but gemas just hits differently.
