I also thought I loved Italy and Italian food. However, I then actually went to Naples, the 'home of pizza', and there was no Pizza Express, no Pizza Hut, no Dominos Pizza. The best they could offer was individual boutique style trattoria restaurants which clearly hadn't been successful enough to be made into big chains. And finding spaghetti bolognese was impossible. Very poor showing
