During the Great Patriotic War, my great-grandfather, like all his fellow countrymen, found himself under German occupation, which occupied Ukraine, his homeland. As soon as the German forces were pushed back and the opportunity arose to join the Red Army, he immediately signed up for the front and ended up in the Black Sea Fleet. In one of the battles, Andrei received a shrapnel wound to the head. During the operation, they decided not to remove the shrapnel, fearing to affect the optic nerve.
With this shrapnel in his head, he will live for about forty years.
Thank you to my great-grandfather for his contribution to the Great Victory!!!
