no problem! welcome to my world :)
Such a long time. How are things going for you? Please write to me through my Inbox because it is easier for me to know that you have sent me a message.
You don't have to apologise. We have all the time since we are both retired.
What is the weather in Southern India now? Here it is cool to cold in the night and dry. It is a season we call the 'Harmattan' period. During this season cold and dry winds blow from the interior of Northern Africa which is a desert called the Sahara Desert. I hope you have heard of this desert. It is the largest desert in the world. It has large areas of wide expanses of sand an large areas of rocks or stones. Since this desert is cold and dry during this season the winds which blow from it are also dry and cold. Everything is dry, especially in the northern parts of Wet Africa.
At the university level, Geography is more of an Applied Science than the normal high school Geography. We apply the principles, theories and laws of the physical and natural sciences. For example, Meteorology, which i taught to students of Agricultural Science, is more of Atmospheric Physics and Chemistry while Geomorphology applies the principles and theories of Physics to the understanding of the processes which create landforms. However, we study the interrelationships between the environment and man and his activities.
We have a lot to talk about later. Have a nice time during this Christmas season. We have started preparing for Christmas which is just about a week away now.
Merry Christmas.
Ari
Thank you for your message. I am quite delighted to read from you again. Formerly I was making friends with all sorts of people on line, including young people and non-academics. The experience I had from some of them was quite awful. I did not quite enjoy most of such friendships because our conversations were not satisfying. They were mostly not academic enough in content. Mostly 'How are?', 'How was your day?' types of chatting. I got bored in most cases so I changed my profile to emphasise on friendships with academics and intellectuals. You are one of the few academics who have responded to my request for academic oriented friends.
When I retired from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology at the age of 60 years I was given five years of contract for two years periods each and a final one of one year. I retired finally in 2010. After that I got another appointment as Rector of a new university college at Accra, our capita; city. I did this work for one and half years and resigned for personal reasons.
My specialisation is Geography but I also lectured Meteorology to BSc. Agriculture students. I had a friend who lectured in Social Work at the University of Ghana, Legon but I have very little knowledge of what Social Work is. Is is related to Sociology or a branch of it? It must be broad and very useful to society because we have so many social problems. I am curious.
I will like to be called Ari as a short form of Aristotle.
My warmest regards.
Ari
I am happy for your message. Yes, we can be friends because we have so many things in common. We can use e-mail messages and later meet on Skype and imo. We can also send messages to each other on Whatsapp.
I am a Geographer. I have a Masters Degree in Geography and Regional Development from the University of Ghana, Legon, Accra. I also did research for my PHD degree for some two years but I had to defer my programme indefinitely due to the fact that I contracted a life-threatening sickness which made me collapse one day during the course. However, I continued to do research as a lecturer for my promotion when I recovered. I was then lecturing courses at the Undergraduate and Post-graduate degree levels in Geography and Agricultural Meteorology at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana.
Please let us send messages on this site through our Inboxes. They are safer there since our walls are too open to all viewers.
Thank you for your friendship request.
My best wishes.
Aristotle.
